PROFILE
The IG Schulmodell Rockenhausen (IGSMR) is the only type of comprehensive
school (resp. high school) in the Donnersberg County. The students of our school come from
the town of Rockenhausen and from all over the Donnersberg County. The current enrollment
is 946 students (grade five to 13), the teaching staff comprises 76 teachers.
COMMUNITY
From the beginning our school
has enjoyed a tremendous support by the community. The IGSMR
surely is one of the focal points of the community for many events.
One
example is our project week where the kids work for a whole week on
special projects for the community, for different funds or to gain new
insights in different subjects.
Some
of them are: - Learning by doing
- Learning with all senses
- Reading to people in nursing homes
- Taking care of old cemeteries
- Taking care of pets in school and in animal shelters
PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT
Parental involvement is strong and growing as evidenced by the participation
of parents and increased parental attendance at school site meetings. Parents are encouraged
by the school staff to support the educational process at home, with clear expectations of
behaviour and academic achievement (studying progress) that are consistent with the
school’s philosophy and vision.
CURRICULUM
A major need of our students is to master the core curriculum (speak and
write the mother tongue fluently, maths, history, physics, art, biology, chemistry,
physical education, social science, geography, foreign languages like English and French,
vocational training methods of life-long learning, including increased use of
computer).
